The world of interior design is sadly a sketchy landscape in Singapore, with many homeowners having experienced or heard accounts of people getting scammed and/or unfairly overcharged for renovations.
So the tale that this homeowner recently recounted on the Free Interior Design Singapore Ideas Facebook page shouldn’t be surprising. A victim of a serial scammer, Debbie shared her experience of getting ditched by an interior designer after coughing up an $8,000 deposit — and she wasn’t the only one. Other customers of D Interior Designs faced similar issues as well.
According to her, police reports would garner no results as this was considered a civil court case, instead of a criminal act. Imagine her horror when she realized that the interior designer had actually done the same thing twice before, setting up new companies and going MIA with his customers’ money.
Other victims cheated by the man also expressed their haplessness in the cheater running free without any police investigation.
So let this be a warning to those of you who have just gotten the keys to your flats — tread carefully when you’re searching for interior design firms.
