Hoarder lady gets jailed for failing to give proper care to her 39 pet cats

Imagine the horror of Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) officers when they entered a foul-smelling flat to find a total of 39 sickly cats trapped inside filthy cages.

Their owner — Roslina Binte Roslani — has since been sentenced to two weeks in jail for failure of duty of care to her pet cats. Including other drug-related charges, the 34-year-old however received a total of five years, six months and four weeks imprisonment.

After getting complaints of faecal odour emanating from a unit at Block 207 along Yishun St 21, AVA went down for inspections on Feb 25 earlier this year only to stumble upon the horrifying find. According to the authorities, the cats were found in poor physical condition and health — four of which died shortly after due to underlying medical conditions. Another feline had to be euthanised due to bad health.

The remaining 34 cats fared a lot better — they’ve since been handed over to Cat Welfare Society, who’ve been taking care of the kitties and successfully re-homed some of them. 18 of them will be up for adoption as part of the Fur Friends Fiesta carnival on Nov 26.

“AVA condemns acts of animal cruelty including neglect resulting in the welfare of the animals being compromised,” they wrote in a press release. “AVA urges pet owners not to hoard animals, and be responsible and considerate pet owners so as not to cause inconvenience to the community.”
