A banged-up delivery van was left with its engine still running in the middle of an expressway, according to a motorist who found it this morning.

The unnamed driver found a white Lalamove delivery vehicle with a damaged door and windscreen on the Tuas-bound side of the Ayer Rajah Expressway at around 1:30am this morning. In a video shot from the scene, the driver said the airbags had been activated, but no one was inside.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force told Coconuts today that it was alerted to the wreck just after midnight, adding that they found someone with minor injuries who refused medical help. It did not elaborate.

“Strange that the door and windshield was damaged and airbags deployed but no one was found to be around and no sign of collision with another vehicle. What do you guys think?” the video caption read.

The driver who posted it said that despite the engine still running, the van’s hazard lights were not turned on, and no other vehicle which might have been involved could be seen.

Coconuts has reached out to Lalamove for comment.

The scene left viewers baffled. Some poked fun at the incident, while others were concerned by how much worse it could have been.

“Legend has it that the driver is still roaming aye till today as we type…” a Syed Fadil wrote.

“Is extremely dangerous to stop at the middle of the highway. Yet this guy can come down take video some more. Hero!!” a Jayson Jason wrote.

A day after this story was published, Lalamove told Coconuts that it was investigating and declined to comment further.

Update: This story has been updated with a statement from Lalamove.
