Climatologically, May is considered one of the warmest months of the year. This being the inter-monsoon period, however, weak prevailing winds and strong solar heating land areas make the environment conducive for the development of thunderstorm clouds that could grow to gigantic heights of over 12km, according to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS).

Jumpy folks will not be glad to know that the month of May has the second highest number of lightning occurrences after November. Lightning activities tend to be more intense during this period, which will accompany thundery afternoon showers on six to eight days. MSS expects some early morning thunderstorms with gusty winds across the island on one or two days too.

But it’s not all raincoat weather. The daily temperature is expected to range between 25°C and 33°C, with a few particularly warm days expected where the maximum temperature could reach as high as 35°C on a few afternoons. In other words, business as usual in Singapore, where you’ll never know if you should prepare for rain or hot weather when you head outside.
