A serious traffic accident involving three cars and a motorcycle in Jurong East yesterday evening has left an elderly woman dead, and three others hospitalized.
The scene of chaos along Jurong East Street 31 was captured on video and shared on the SG Kay Poh Facebook page, complete with footage of the 83-year-old woman lying down motionless in the middle of the road. A fallen motorcycle was positioned next to a man lying down on a grass patch, with passersby attending to him. Two cars had crashed into two separate trees, with the horn blaring out from one of the vehicles.
The (overzealous) man behind the camera can be heard narrating: “…the driver came out from the carpark and straight away ran over (the woman), and hit a car and a motorbike”. According to the narrator, the elderly woman had been crossing the road when she was directly hit by a car.
He then confronted a man, presumably the driver who caused the accident. When asked why he allegedly accelerated hard, the driver defended himself, claiming that his car’s braking system had somehow malfunctioned.
“Problem with the car lah, not me lah,” the man can be heard saying.
Police confirmed to The Straits Times that the elderly pedestrian had been unconscious when getting conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The motorcyclist and two of the car drivers were conscious when taken to the hospital.
Police are currently investigating the case.
