If you’ve stayed in Singapore long enough, you will know that it is not the clean and pristine country that foreigners and expats think it is. There is so much craziness that happens in Singapore too, from uncles brawling in kopitiams to aggressive altercations on MRTs.

But what we saw that went viral overnight is another form of crazy.

A fight broke out in broad daylight at the heart of Singapore’s shopping district Orchard Road using deadly weapons such as a knife, in a video uploaded by the Facebook page Beh Chai Lor on Thursday.

The video appeared to have been shot outside Ming Arcade, in a road between Forum The Shopping Mall and Hard Rock Cafe.

In the video filmed in another car located a few meters away, two cars are seen parked on the side of the road as a group of men appeared to be in a heated debate.

One man then retreated to his car, while another man gave chase and seemingly kicked that car. Things then started to turn violent when another man holding a long weapon used it to hit the man who kicked the car to the ground.

The other men, having seen this, get angry but the man holding the weapon uses it to swat off the other men.

It was at this point that the man who retreated to his car comes out of it holding a long knife, brandishing it to the other men involved in the fight.

CNA reported on Friday that five men aged between 26 to 39 years old were arrested in relations to the video for rioting with a deadly weapon, according to a police statement.

Police said they were alerted to a fight that happened on April 6 at around 9.20am, reported Stomp.

Anyone who is caught rioting with a deadly weapon could be slapped with a maximum of 10 years’ jail and caned.

At least the fight did not happen in the main Orchard Road thoroughfare and was located a little bit farther away up north of the shopping belt.

Beh Chia Lor’s comment when the five rioters were arrested? A very simple “no surprise”. We concur.
