Here are the revised public carpark charges that’ll hit islandwide come Dec 1

Well, it had to happen eventually. After a review carried out by the Housing Development Board (HDB) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), they’ve decided that all public carpark charges should go up when December comes around.

According to them, it’s all part of bringing up Singapore’s parking rates in line with those of other global cities, and closing the gap between the fees charged by private and public parking spots.

Adding to the fact that this would be the first revision executed in 14 years, they also contended that public carparks now have improved amenities like the electronic parking system and lifts.

“Car park charges have not kept pace with these cost increases,” HDB and URA noted in a joint press release. “Therefore revisions are needed to ensure proper cost recovery.” Okay, okay, we get it.

Here are the revisions that’ll hit your wallets come Dec 1:

Short-term Parking

  • Outside CBD/Central area, the parking charge will be raised by $0.10, from $0.50 to $0.60 per half-hour.
  • Within CBD/Central area, the parking charge will be raised by $0.20, from $1.00 to $1.20 per half-hour.
  • Differential charging on a per-minute basis will continue to apply for selected EPS car parks in locations with high demand.

Season Parking

  • Residents who buy season parking for their first car will pay a lower rate than those who require more than one parking lot or non-residents who use HDB carparks.
  • For non-residents and residents’ second and subsequent parking lot, the full rate for season parking will see a $25 increase ($90 per month) for surface car parks, and a $30 increase for sheltered car parks ($120 per month).
  • For residents’ first parking lot, the parking charge will see a smaller increase of $15 for surface car parks (from $65 to $80 per month), and $20 for sheltered car parks (from $90 to $110 per month).
  • Family Season Parking Ticket holders will continue to enjoy a concessionary rate of half of the season parking rate.

Motorcycles

  • Good news for riders — parking charges will remain as per status quo. Per-minute charging still applies and Concessionary Season Parking Ticket for motorcycles are still available.

Meanwhile, all motorists will have to use new coupons with the revised rates from Dec 1 onwards — unused ones can be exchanged from early October onwards by topping up the difference in value.
