In a stunt gone horribly wrong, young Jonathan Chow wanted his friend to take a Snapchat video of him vaulting over a railing to stand on a ledge on the fourth storey of Orchard Central.

Unfortunately, his teenage antics led to his demise. The 17-year-old crashed through the plasterboard ledge and fell down four floors. He was conveyed unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and succumbed to his injuries there.

A GIF of leaked CCTV footage showed the exact moment he decided to jump over the railing, while his friend reacted in horror after he fell.

“We were window shopping for clothes (at the mall) and when we went to the bridge, he came up with the idea of doing the stunt,” said Chow’s companion to TODAY. 17-year-old Ruth stated that Chow wanted record her performing the stunt after he was done with his.

“We both thought the ledge was made of concrete, but when he jumped, he fell straight through,” she said. “I knew it was dangerous, but before I could stop him, he already jumped over. I swear I wanted to jump over too but I knew it was too late.”

Her account of events disproved initial reports that Chow had accidentally dropped his phone on the ledge and wanted to retrieve it. The claim that he did it (and died) for a Snapchat story makes it all the more tragic.
