Woodleigh MRT station has been shut down temporarily while the authorities conduct investigations about a suspicious substance found there.

The police issued an alert to the public around 1:52pm, advising folks to avoid the area around the MRT station. SBS Transit stated that all trains will skip the station, and free bus services are currently running between Serangoon and Potong Pasir MRT Stations.

According to a reporter from Channel NewsAsia, a “white powder-like substance” was found at the concourse area.

Both the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force were deployed to the vicinity soon after, with the latter calling in their hazardous materials (Hazmat) specialists.

The situation is developing right now, and we’ll update this article when more details are dropped.

This security incident comes just a couple of weeks after the authorities briefly shut down Hougang MRT station (also on the North-East Line) when a man left an unattended luggage bag full of household items at its platform. The man was arrested for public nuisance after it was found that he intentionally chucked the bag there while he ran an errand.
