Harvard researcher loses PhD from NTU after found to have falsified data

What a mess this is — a Harvard researcher’s reputation has gone to the dogs after he was found guilty of falsifying data in his papers.

Sudarsanreddy Lokireddy has now lost his PhD from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) after investigations revealed him to have falsified data in some of the in vitro laboratory studies he carried out — invalidating the results reported. Two papers that he worked on have since been retracted by The Journal of Biological Chemistry. Unfortunately, the papers with the falsified data have already been cited 10 times, according to Thomson Reuters Web of Science.

Another journal — Molecular Endocrinology — confirmed that the retraction notice for another paper is due to be published in the journal’s August print issue.

The research group had been led by a Professor Ravi Kambadur, who was also found wilfully negligent in running the studies. As such, his joint employment at NTU and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) was terminated as well.
