Picture this: You’re in a rush to get places, but lo and behold, someone steps in your path and tries to get your attention with a sales pitch.

It’s a scenario we’re all familiar with — heck, some of you may have worked as salespeople at roadshows before. Nothing against the industry or its workers, but sometimes it’s worthwhile to consider someone else’s feedback. Especially when it’s a rather amusing social media post that has gotten viral attention and plenty of netizens nodding in agreement.

So last Wednesday, one individual by the name of Herbert Liu took to Facebook to air his frustrations with extremely persistent (and at times pesky) financial consultants and salespeople at roadshows. Emphasis on the extreme part.

Offering a couple scenarios and tips on how not to approach potential clients, Liu’s words resounded with many who found they could relate to his experiences.

His advice to salespeople included not forcing themselves on people walking briskly to their destination, because “no means no”, and not insulting customers’ intelligence by saying, “I am not trying to sell you anything”.

“If not you stop me for what,” he enquired. “Love at first sight?”

“Passing me a brochure for me to read in my free time is fine,” he clarified. “[But] please don’t ask me questions like, ‘Can you tell me why not?’ When girls reject me I also don’t ask them, ‘Can you tell me why not?'”

As a parting shot, Liu ended his post with this gem of a paragraph.

“Also please do not run in front of me and dangle your ‘Free Gift’ in front of my eyes expecting my field of vision to follow the object that you are dangling in your hand,” he insisted. “I AM NOT YOUR CAT.”

In case you can’t see the post, here it is.

The subsequent discussion on social media brought forth those who shared his frustrations…

Those who defended the role of the salesperson…

And those who totally got his point.
