This dude starred in his own re-enactment of Grand Theft Auto. Though he didn’t exactly have sex with prostitutes before running over them with a car to get back his money, his case cuts pretty close.
46-year-old freelance painter Tan Chin Heng was sentenced to five years’ corrective training for stealing from prostitutes last November after leading them to think that they’ll be providing sexual services.
His schemes would involve the same process — get prostitute into car; get her to leave her valuables in the vehicle; drive off when she’s not in the car.
The Straits Times reports that one occasion, Tan procured a Vietnamese sex worker from Joo Chiat using a rented car, who agreed to do the deed for $80. Tan drove her to a secluded carpark in Eunos Industrial Estate, and asked her to leave her handbag in the front seat while they moved to the back seat. After disagreeing over the price, Tan refused to continue the undertaking and told her to get back to the front seat.
The wily man quickly drove off the moment she stepped out the car, carting off with her handbag which contained $200 in local currency, US$1,000, her mobile phone and her passport. He took the $200 and discarded her handbag.
In another occasion, he picked up a Chinese prostitute from a coffee shop in Geylang and pulled off the same stunt on her.
Tan was also convicted of criminal breach of trust for another offence involving borrowing a Volkswagen Jetta and absconded with it. The man was busted when the car was spotted in Lorong 18 Geylang.
Apparently, he is also engaged to a 40-year-old, who is four months pregnant with their child. Model dad eh?
Tan was sentenced to corrective training as he is a repeat offender — he was jailed for 30 months in 2010 for similar theft offences.
