Hot on the heels of two widely publicised cases involving MRTs — a cranky old bully and the worst service disruption ever — that could make anyone impertinent, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) assures that it is all sunshine and rainbows because graciousness levels have risen.
Their Commuter Graciousness Index measures perceived change in commuters’ behaviour on public transport with barometers such as queuing up and giving way to other passengers, giving up seats to those who need them more and moving in to allow more people to board.
If the barometers read true, then take comfort in knowing that the Commuter Graciousness Index has determined that graciousness levels have steadily increased over the past three years. In 2012, it was a dog-eat-dog world with graciousness levels at only 38.6% before we decided to become better commuters with 42% in 2013. Last year, the index saw a jump to 61.3%, so that’s probably a good thing.
To celebrate the gracious achievement, LTA decided to pump in even more enthusiasm into their weird little cartoon mascots (Bag-Down Benny, Hush-Hush Hannah, etc), which nobody really cares about. Stop trying to make the mascots happen, LTA.
