It has always been a pretty rough ride to-and-fro Singapore and Johor — what with all the cramped buses, ghastly traffic jams and more inconveniences of causeway travel.
E-hailing app Grab however wants to alleviate the discomforts of cross-border travelling with their new initiative: carpooling with other passengers to-and-fro Singapore and Johor Bahru. Hurrah, hurrah.
Launching on June 20, GrabHitch JB-SG will team up drivers with fellow passengers travelling in the same direction across the borders at fixed surcharges and distance-based fares.
It seems to be a lot cheaper and convenient too than going through the motions of taking several mediums of public transportation. A ride from Johor Bahru City Square shopping centre to Orchard Road could cost as little as RM20, and SGD14 for the other way round. For $9, you can even carpool straight from Woodlands to City Square.
According to Grab, passengers can even pre-book rides in advance and select preferred pickup and drop-off points. Fares will be displayed upfront so there won’t be any unpleasant surprises when the ride’s over. More details available when GrabHitch JB-SG launches.
