It took some time, but ride-hailing service Grab has finally launched a dedicated feature to ferry your furry friends. Not to be confused with friends who happen to be furries.

Grab announced the beta launch of GrabPet, which kicks off today for all users across Singapore. What makes the GrabPet a tad better than the similar on-demand service launched by former rivals Uber is that Grab provides additional insurance coverage for pets onboard. The “first-of-its-kind travel insurance for pets”, says Grab Singapore head Lim Kell Jay.

Fares are a bit pricey — GrabPet services start at $14 — but we suppose it’s worth not going through the trouble of calling up the drivers we booked to ask if having pets onboard is kosher. On top of having microfibre towels and air fresheners at the ready, GrabPet vehicles are said to be equipped with a foldable back-seat cover with an adjustable leash for pets. All ferried pets (no exotic ones, please) have to be accompanied by human passengers and have to be crated, caged, boxed or leashed at all times.

Grab assured that the driver-partners under its new service are trained in transporting animals in their vehicles. According to the company, hundreds of its drivers have been taught by Singapore’s leading dog trainer Patrick Wong, the owner and founder of Waggies dog training school.

“It puts me at ease knowing that there will be someone else who is aware of how to handle my pet, and ensure that they are safe throughout the entire car ride. Also, it’s great to know that pets are insured on the rides as well!” offered 22-year-old student and dog owner Felicia Chan, who sounds enthused enough to make a cameo on Grab’s press release.

Pet owners can already start booking GrabPet rides today and get $3 off their fare with the promo code “LOVEPETS”. Also, for the next one month, Grab will donate $3 from every GrabPet ride to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Singapore.
