Sorry, folks who’ve been eagerly anticipating news about GrabBike — those Grab-branded motorcycles around town are actually just the Grab cops.

Officially titled as the Grab Enforcement Team (GET), they’re just a group of enforcement officers who scoot around the island making sure Grab drivers have all the proper licences, decals and letters they need to be private-hire car drivers.

According to a New Paper report, Grab launched the initiative as a “proactive enforcement” to protect their drivers and prevent any law-breaking done under their name. GET officers will check the vehicles being drive by Grab drivers and ensure that both the cars and the drivers are licensed. Drivers will also have to display special decals on their windscreens — deals that cannot be tampered at all under the Road Traffic Act.

For those who’ve been wanting to feel the wind in their hair and get through traffic jams faster on GrabBikes, it’s just too bad that Grab has no plans at all to launch the bike-hailing service in Singapore. Looks like we’ll only be able to ride ‘em in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
