Grab may have just bought over rival Uber’s Southeast Asia operations, but it’s been having quite the rough week. Just a couple days ago, the ride-hailing company had to shield itself from complaints around the region when its app experienced a major outage in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and Myanmar due to a “service interruption”.
Needless to say, commuters and drivers were not happy, and many poked fun at the irony of the situation, which was particularly depressing considering Uber will pull out of Southeast Asia come April 8.
Unfortunately for Grab, its troubles were far from over when users in Singapore were unable to access the app this afternoon during lunchtime. In a Facebook post, the beleaguered company explained it was a “technical issue” and said it was “working hard to fix” it.
This service disruption, the second incident in a week, resulted in another outpouring of frustration from commuters and drivers — especially when Uber fares naturally experienced a hike.
Thankfully, it didn’t last too long, and the app was back up and running around 12:30pm. Fingers crossed Grab’s infrastructure improves by, er, next week, when we officially bid farewell to Uber in the region.
