Hearts are now full after a migrant worker’s selfless act became the talk of the town today.
Elaine Liu told Coconuts last night that she made a new friend with a kind Samaritan after one of her AirPods flew out of her ear and into a drain when she brushed her hair while cycling on a rainy afternoon at Hougang. A nearby construction worker only known as Mukul then came to save the day by fishing out the earpiece with ease.
“So I looked around for help as my area was doing some construction, was aiming to find someone with safety boots and helmet to help. So wandered further and came across this site. I asked for help and Mukul was glad to help, he was in fact very sincere and followed me as I walked with my bicycle,” she wrote.

As if the day could not get any worse, it started to pour heavily. Still, Liu and Mukul worked together to lift the metal drain grate. Mukul Mission Impossible-d his way right into the drain and picked up the lost earpiece then skillfully exited as if it was nothing.
The whole operation only took 7 minutes tops, she said, adding that they later sought shelter at the nearest bus stop and snapped a selfie.
The next day, Liu went down to the same construction site at 8am to present a packet of drinks and an Angbao (red packet) to thank Mukul and his team and proceeded to take more selfies.
The pods still work, and the pair are now friends on Instagram and TikTok, she said.
Liu’s TikTok video showing Mukul skillfully retrieving the earpiece under pouring rain has amassed close to 200,000 views since it was posted Tuesday.
