Global software outage delays passengers in Changi Airport after check-in systems go down

All was not well at the world’s best airport yesterday when travelers had their plans disrupted for a few hours after check-in systems of several big airlines went down due to a software outage.

Changi wasn’t the only one though. Reports have been coming in about how Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, Washington DC’s Reagan Airport, London’s Heathrow Airport and other aviation hubs across the world were also hit by the technical glitch.

But not all airlines were affected. The likes of Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Lufthansa, British Airways and more had their check-in systems downed — with The Telegraph reporting that it was due to issues with the system made by Amadeus, a Spanish IT firm.

On their end, Amadeus confirmed that there had been a network issue that caused disruption to some of their systems, and they assured quick restoration of services.

It was around 8:30pm last night that Changi Airport and Singapore Airlines gave the all-clear notice on Facebook, assuring affected travelers that the check-in systems had been restored. During the software outage, the airport issued manual boarding passes, but the process took longer than usual.
