A Giant supermarket’s promotional signage for Batang fish takes on an unfortunately whorish typo

This is one unintentionally amusing bit of copy that could and should have underwent vetting before being put up. A Giant supermarket made the unfortunate mistake of, er, demeaning the gender and profession presumably led by its Batang fish on sale.

For those who still don’t get it, it’s supposed to be “Fresh Whole Batang” for $0.95 per 100g.

It doesn’t help that the word “batang” also means “young” in Filipino and “rod” in Malay, so that adds to the whole innuendo. Having a promotion “while stocks last” and outright banning traders just makes it worse.
