Game over: Virtualand Bugis Junction closing down, to be replaced by IT retailer Challenger

Gone are the good old days of hanging out at arcades and showing off your moves on Dance Dance Revolution or shooting enemies in Time Crisis or bashing buttons on Bishi Bashi. But it’s not completely due to the waning popularity of video game arcades that Virtualand is closing its 14,000 sq ft flagship outlet in Bugis Junction. Apparently, both the arcade and the mall came to an agreement to end Virtualand’s lease after an 18-year tenancy.

So come January 3, you’ll have to find other arcades to get your game fix. But fret not — Virtualand is looking for a new home to move to, and in the meantime, its machines and staff will be redistributed to other branches (like Nex, Tiong Bahru Plaza and Clementi CityVibe).

IT retailer Challenger is reportedly taking over the vacated space with a new flagship that will open in the first half of next year, and that will be in addition to its existing outlet at level three.
