With the PlayStation 4 Pro (it’s just a juiced up PS4) coming out soon, those who don’t own the original gaming console are taking advantage of the time to seek and purchase the vanilla version for cheap.
But one 30-year-old man thought he could take advantage of interested buyers looking for low-priced PS4 consoles. Offering attractive, discounted prices for them online, he would gather the payments without delivering the goods, giving various excuses. Seems like he conned a lot of gamers, too — his collection of funds amounted to approximately $6,000.
Numerous police reports were lodged between Sept 4 and Sept 28. It took some time, but officers from Jurong Division established the suspect’s identity and arrested him along Toh Guan Road East on Oct 4.
If convicted with the offence of cheating, it’ll be game over for him with a possible jail term of up to 10 years.
Police have advised online shoppers that it’s best to pay only on delivery whenever possible, and to be mindful that some sellers may use identity cards of others to gain trust.
