Four men arrested for tossing molotov cocktails at St James Power Station as an act of revenge

Even at our drunkest, rarely would we decide to craft firebombs and toss them around for yuks. Well, maybe — we haven’t gotten that drunk before.

Blame it on the alcohol or the folly of youth, but four men — aged between 23 and 26 — were arrested in the wee hours of Tuesday morning in a case of mischief involving molotov cocktails, which are used commonly by protestors, urban guerrillas, rioters and the like.

Police were ready for a firefight when they responded to a call requesting for assistance at one of the many bars/clubs at St James Power Station. Officers arriving at the scene discovered fragments of broken beer bottles and soot near the entrance of the unnamed entertainment outlet.

On-scene investigations revealed that a total of four bottles filled with petrol were believed to have been lit and thrown by three unknown men who fled from the scene immediately after the incident. Dangerous as it is, nobody was reportedly injured from the fiery capers.

It took less than 20 hours for the police to arrest the first suspect. Identities of his accomplices were subsequently established and they were arrested in separate operations executed on Sept 13 and 14.

Further investigations revealed that the incendiary incident was carried out as an act of revenge arising from a dispute between one of the suspects and the staff of the unnamed entertainment outlet at the nightlife hub.

Police are looking for one more person connected to the case — a 26-year-old Daryl Tay Kai Long. Meanwhile, all four arrested suspects will be charged with the offence of Mischief by Fire with Common Intention, which could land them up to seven years in jail and a fine.
