Four former Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) specialists based at Tuas Checkpoint were charged for corruption on Jan. 9.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the officers — 25-year-old Azhar Kahmis, 26-year-old Hidayat Mohamed Hussain, 29-year-old Lukmanulhakim Samsun and 34-year-old Mohamed Nazrul Noor Mohamed — accepted bribe offers pertaining to the facilitation and the granting of visit passes prolonging the stay of foreigners in Singapore.
The offences were committed in 2010 and 2011.
Investigations by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) also revealed that the four officers were recruited under ex-ICA officer Mohammed Mustaffa Mohabat Ali — who has since been jailed 21 months for corruption in December 2013 — and were granted between $50 and $100 for assisting him.
All of the officers are currently out on a $10,000 bail each, with one — Nor Hidayat — intending to claim trial.
Their cases will be heard again in February.
