A Channel NewsAsia report has revealed that ‘wanted’ sex blogger Alvin Tan is currently in the United States, where he intends to seek political refuge.
The 26-year-old, who faces criminal charges together with former girlfriend Vivian Lee under Malaysia’s Film Censorship and Sedition Acts, has been ‘hunted down’ since early this year when he failed to return his passport to the court.
CNA claims to have made contact with the former National University of Singapore scholar via his personal Facebook account, and extracted the following statement: “I’m busy starting a new life here, apart from awaiting my final asylum hearing. I’m here to seek political refuge from the tyranny of UMNO – simple as that.”
Apparently Tan first applied for the asylum-seeker status in May and is confident he will get it.
Otherwise, he will continue posting “seditious material” online to strengthen his case, according to CNA.
