A week after a grandmother sustained multiple injuries from a collision with an electric scooter, the police have found the suspect, who fled after knocking her down at the lift lobby of Block 538 along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.

The Singapore Police Force made an appeal for information from the public following the accident on Apr. 17, putting out a CCTV shot of him on its Facebook page. His profile had been concealed by a full-faced helmet, presumably explaining why it took some time to establish his identity.

In a media release yesterday, the police confirmed that a 15-year-old youth has since been identified for his suspected role in the case of Rash Act Causing Hurt through the aid of police cameras and extensive ground investigations. The teen is now assisting the police with investigations, with his e-scooter and helmet seized as case exhibits.

As for the 65-year-old victim, her plight was shared in a Facebook post by her daughter, who detailed the incident and the painful injuries that were sustained. According to Sharon Sim’s post, her mother had been on the way to pick her grandchild from school when she was knocked down from behind by an e-scooter. The rider “didn’t help at all” and rode away from the scene despite the victim’s attempts to hold him back, while the victim’s husband tried to give chase.

The grandmother suffered a cut on her nose and multiple bruises on her knee elbow and ribs — but thankfully, six Institute of Technical Education (ITE) students who were nearby provided her aid. With the suspect now identified and arrested, Sim thanked everyone who helped spread the word about the incident.

If the suspect is convicted of rash act causing hurt, he could receive a punishment of up to a year in jail and/or a fine.
