Former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station opens on Labour Day with an Annie Leibovitz exhibit

Hands up if you were at the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station over the last long weekend. If you recall, the Local People hosted a ’90s art market on Good Friday, and throngs of people turned up. We’re not even kidding about the masses. It’s highly unlikely anyone managed to take a picture without random strangers photobombing them — that’s how sizeable the crowd was.

So now that we’ve sweated through one long weekend at the historic monument, we’re here to tell you that the best time to go is either early in the morning or towards evening. Please don’t turn up at noon and expect to look fabulous in all your photos.

Long story short, the station is open on Labour Day from 9am to 6pm, and there’s a treat in store for visitors. An exhibition by Annie Leibovitz, titled Women: New Portraitswill be displayed at the main hall. As part of a ten-city international tour, the showcase features portraits of outstanding women who’ve achieved milestones in their careers as artists, politicians, philanthropists and more. It’ll be in town from Apr 29 to May 22, so if you don’t feel like fighting the crowds on your day off, stop by any other time.

Along with this open house, a photography contest set to the theme of ‘Celebrating Places and Memories’ will run from May 1 to Jun 12 — you can submit your best images of iconic state properties (like the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station).
