Former silat world champion Sheik Alauddin has stepped into the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) by setting up an MMA Federation of Singapore.
Recognising the growing popularity of the sport — currently still unofficial in Singapore — Sheik believes there is a need for a regulatory framework to guide its direction.
Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, Sheik said that the aim of the organisation is to help create a platform of support for amateurs and to establish common standards and rules for the growing sport.
The federation will also focus on developing upcoming fighters and organising amateur tournaments in the hopes that more people will go pro and make a career out of the sport in the future.
