Former SCDF director gets 10 weeks’ jail for pocketing 2 iPads for himself

When you’re a director of a huge, respectable organisation, you’d think you’d have enough money to get yourself your own iPads.

For 63-year-old former director at Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) Jeganathan Ramasamy however, he was convicted for misappropriating two of them back in September 2011, Channel NewsAsia reports.

Jeganathan told the court that he assumed the two iPads obtained from SCDF vendors were for personal use, and went on to give one to his daughter while he sold the other one to his colleague.

The iPads were actually entrusted to him for the purpose of testing out SCDF mobile apps.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor called Jeganathan’s offences “deliberate”, lacked “professional integrity” and even damaged the reputation of the SCDF.

He was found guilty of two counts of criminal breach of trust and has been sentenced to 10 weeks’ jail. Over a bunch of iPads.
