Former Singapore defender Syed Mutalib will open House of Briyani at 96 Owen Road tomorrow, in memory of the late Choo Seng Quee, whose house used to stand just a few doors away at 87A.

Remember how we talked about the golden era of football? Much of the football spirit in those years can be attributed to Choo, the legendary national coach who helped nurture some of Singapore’s greatest sporting talents, including Dollah Kassim, Fandi Ahmad and Quah Kim Song.

Uncle Choo, as he is fondly known, never gave up on football—a career he had dedicated over 40 years of his life to—even when he had become wheelchair-bound after losing his limbs to diabetes.

The House of Briyani launch on September 7 saw former Singapore footballers Fandi Ahmad and Steven Tan in attendance (see video below).

House of Briyani is the latest food venture in Singapore by a local footballer, following the likes of V. Sundramoorthy’s Chat Masala and Sahara Persian Restaurant & Bar by Esad Sejdic.
