Forget the #10YearChallenge. This one takes the cake and ends on a meaningful note.
A series of photos comparing Singapore then and now has captured the eyes of Singaporeans as it seems fairly apt this year to be reflecting on our past, given the recent Singapore bicentennial commemorations.
The photos went viral on Reddit’s r/Singapore channel, garnering over 2,700 upvotes since the photos were posted on Friday.
They were done by 31-year-old video editor Adam Snyder, who posted a heartfelt story of how his father had traveled to Singapore in the past.
When his father learned that Adam was going to move to Singapore in 2013, his father sent him a bunch of photos from his time in Singapore.
Adam’s father soon passed on in 2014, but Adam decided last year to reignite his memories of his father by revisiting the very spots where his father took these photos of Singapore to try and recreate them.
While some of these places have definitely gone through redevelopment, it is interesting to note how some of these monuments have continued to stay, such as the iconic row of shophouses at the junction of Jalan Besar and Kelantan Road.
Although the “then” photos were marked as taken in 1988, a Redditor soon pointed out to him that certain shots looked like it was taken in 1991 instead, which Adam quickly acknowledged and noted in an addendum.

Commenters on the imgur website praised Snyder for his good eye and ability to recreate some of these visuals from yesteryear.

So, you can forget about your #10YearChallenge. Beat this one.
