Following imminent closure of Jurong Country Club, other club membership prices soar

File this one under ‘First World Problems’. Current members of Jurong Country Club are left in a gold-plated pickle after news dropped that their club will be making way for the new Singapore-KL high-speed rail terminus, and other golf clubs across the island have reacted appropriately by — you guessed it — drastically raising their membership prices.

Obviously, this is bad news for the 2,800 members from Jurong Country Club who now have until November next year look for a new club to splurge their wealth.

According to Channel NewsAsia, memberships for other clubs are currently being traded at much higher prices, especially for those situated near Jurong.

The crafty foxes running the membership sales of other country clubs sure know how to turn a quick (and lucrative) buck. Folks in the industry are already expecting that even the less popular clubs will spike the membership prices.

All this has come as a shock to the affluent members of the Jurong Country Club, who are obviously very miffed that their newly remodelled 18-hole golf course will not be able to be used much longer. What the government wants, the government gets.
