’Tis the Year of the Pig, and that means a slew of porcine effigies across the entire Chinatown stretch this Chinese New Year. If you’ve been down to these parts of town then, you’d notice that the decorators went the whole hog (hur hur) with pigs both big and small along New Bridge Road.
But these aren’t your lovable, cutesy porkers. As some folks have made it loud and clear, the gigantic fixtures aren’t that pretty to look at thanks the splotchy brown textures and their dull demeanor. A retired couple who came to Chinatown with the intention to check out the decorations expressed their disappointment to Zaobao, stating that the current installations aren’t as attractive as last year’s. The man even called ‘em “dirty”.

The decorations at Chinatown has always been rather hideous when it comes to the main "attraction". 2017's rooster looked like a tea pot with a rooster's head for a spout. But the pigs really look worse than the previous years. 真的是一年比一年差…

We’re a little over a week till the official light-up ceremony of the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2019, so it’s not likely that the dusky pigs will be changed or modified anytime soon. Thankfully though, they do look significantly better when lit-up at night.
