Pet hotels for dogs and cats are aplenty in Singapore. But for rabbits and rodents? Not so much.

That is, until last month, when The Fluffy Hut opened in Ubi Techpark after getting the go-ahead from the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority. Established by two rabbit owners, the commercial boarding house is the first of its kind in Singapore for rabbits and other small creatures like guinea pigs, chinchillas, and hamsters.

The couple behind the service, who are currently running the boarding house on top of their day jobs, started the business when they were unable to find anything like it available in Singapore for their own pet rabbits.

The Fluffy Hut’s rates are rather reasonable, too. Owners of rabbits, guinea pigs or chinchillas that want to book an entire playpen for their pets have to fork out S$25 per night, while rabbits that can mix around with others in the same pen can be boarded for S$20 per night. As for hamsters, the prices go down to S$5 per night, TODAY reported.

All the animals hosted here get to enjoy 24-hour air-conditioning and daily playtime, as well as organic veggies and fruits for meals. Grooming services are also available, and owners with separation anxiety can even monitor their pets via a phone app if they wish to check in on them.

Previously, owners of these small fluffy animals have had to rely on home-based sitters, which have been around since 2011. According to the president of the House Rabbit Society of Singapore, these home-boarding providers often charge owners S$10 to S$30 a night to take care of their rabbits.

Since its inception, The Fluffy Hut has taken care of about 20 rabbits, 15 hamsters, and two guinea pigs in its 32-enclosure space. To ensure that newcomers are adapting well to their new environment, the animals are closely monitored for the first two hours after check-in. And in the future, owners can look forward to purchasing insurance as part of the boarding packages.
