Five Stars Tours licence revoked, other operators step in to pick up slack

Travel agency Five Star Tours — which abruptly closed down on Jan. 8 — has been handed a notice of revocation by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and will be given till Jan. 31 to provide good reasons against the revocation of its travel agent licence.

STB also said that it is observing the situation and will work with relevant parties to assist customers who are affected by Five Star Tours’ sudden closure.

Following this incident, seven tour agencies have also stated that they will offer their assistance and introduce travel packages at discounted prices to the affected customers.

The seven agencies are Air Sino-Euro Associates Travel, Chan Brothers Travel, CTC Travel, Dynasty Travel, Hong Thai Travel, New Shan Travel and Super Travel.

Affected customers who book a new trip with National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS) members will be also able to receive a 20 percent discount on premium for AIG Asia Pacific Insurance Pte. Ltd.’s Travel Guard insurance policies. However, the discount will only be available for policies purchased before Jan. 30.
