Five new peak period short bus services to be introduced in 2014

Chua Chu Kang, Pasir Ris and Tampines residents will soon have five new peak period short services (PPSS) to facilitate their journey to nearby MRT stations and bus interchanges.

The services will be introduced progressively from the third quarter of 2014 and will overlay on current feeder bus services 291, 293, 307 and 359 to ease the crowding, reduce waiting times and improve reliability through an additional five more bus trips per hour in weekday mornings and evening peak periods.

As part of the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) and the Ministry of Transport’s decision to tap on resources from the private sector, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has also invited private bus operators to submit their cost proposals to operate the five additional short bus services, bringing the number of such services up to 10.

Successful operators will have to apply for bus service licences from the Public Transport Council (PTC).
