Five members of capsized fishing trawler rescued by Singapore Navy patrol vessel

Stranded at sea, the crew members of a capsized fishing trawler sure must have been real glad to see a navy vessel coming to their rescue yesterday morning.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) had been alerted yesterday around 9.40am about a Malaysian-registered fishing trawler that had keeled over off Pedra Branca, in Singapore waters. RSS Independence, a Republic of Singapore Navy patrol vessel, arrived promptly to their aid and rescued all five crew members — two of whom sustained injuries. They were given medical attention by the navy personnel and safely reached Singapore.

MPA has since deployed three vessels to carry out salvage operations to ensure navigational safety at the incident area.
