The New Year’s Eve countdown festivities in the Marina Bay district outshines itself each year, and next Sunday’s celebrations prove no different.

In fact, they’re kicking off the downtown revelry way before New Year’s Eve. Now in its twelfth year running, Marina Bay Singapore Countdown spectacles will start as early as Dec 26, when the facade of The Fullerton Hotel Singapore turns into a canvas for light projection displays, with half-hourly shows every night and New Year wishes collected from the public. Similarly, the Merlion and ArtScience Museum enters the fray for light projection shows, and will have their own projected colors and patterns across their facades from Dec 29 onwards.

If light projections just don’t cut it for you, rejoice in the fact that there’ll one-minute firework displays every hour on the night of New Year’s Eve, starting at 8pm. The final sequence to the arrival of 2018 will feature a six-minute midnight firework display, which will apparently be set up in a linear configuration across a larger area of the bay for the first time.

While waiting for the countdown though, folks are invited to activity hubs across Marina Bay and the Civic District, where a spectrum of programmes — including dance parties, a sunset yoga session, movie screenings, and outdoor bazaars — will be held. Of course, you can also spend your time at the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival, which will be open from 3pm to 2am, with the likes of musical performances by local acts TheLionCityBoy, Jasmine Sokko and Falling Feathers accompanying rides and fair games.

Artsy-fartsies can have their own cultural countdown party at the National Gallery Singapore (which will remain open until 2am) and Asian Civilisations Museum (which will be open until midnight) — both of which will have free admissions for selected exhibits in the day.

“Together with our community of partners, we hope the multi-sensory experience this year will continue to fill everyone’s hearts with joy and hope for the New Year.”
