A man died in a raging fire that broke out in a Jurong East flat, the authorities announced today.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted at around 2:50am to the early morning blaze on the top floor of Block 236 Jurong East Street 21, where the unidentified 48-year-old man was pronounced dead by paramedics.
“A body was found in the affected unit and pronounced dead by an SCDF paramedic,” it said in a statement.
The force said officers rescued three occupants from the ninth-floor, braving the “heavily smoke-logged unit” and heat to do so. Another occupant had evacuated before they arrived.
Emergency responders used three water jets and deployed a ladder to extinguish the fire from outside.
The cause of the fire was under investigation and damping down operations were still ongoing as of early Tuesday afternoon.
Back in May, three people including a 3-year-old child were killed in a fire in their Bedok North flat.
