At least 12 fire engines and 70 firefighters were called to a blaze that broke out in two shophouses at 67-69 Lorong 14 in Singapore’s Geylang neighborhood last night.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post that it responded to the fire at 8:35pm. “SCDF deployed 12 emergency vehicles and about 70 firefighters to the incident,” it wrote.

At the height of the operations, three handheld jets and an aerial monitor were utilized to mitigate the fire,” it added. They also reported that there were no injuries.

In an update posted to the SCDF Facebook page, the agency wrote that the fire had been contained after “nearly three hours of firefighting operations.”

A video making the rounds online shows a large column of smoke billowing out of the building, as authorities cordon off the area from curious onlookers hoping to take videos and photos.

While no one was injured, the extent of the damage to the buildings was not yet clear this morning.

The SCDF’s swift response to the emergency drew praise from netizens.
