Just a little over a year when a blaze took place at the Kent Ridge Hall at the National University of Singapore (NUS), firefighters had to be called in again to the Kent Ridge campus when fire broke out at a Tropical Marine Science Institute building.
A spokesman for NUS noted to The New Paper that smoke was first detected in the antenna equipment room of the building at about 2.45pm, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted.
SCDF personnel quickly put out the fire, which involved the contents of one room on the second storey of the building. 20 people were evacuated from the building with no injuries reported.
The affected establishment — the Sea-to-Space (S2S) Building — houses a 8.5m satellite antenna and deals with the study, conservation and monitoring of the environment, according to the NUS website.
The S2S building is reportedly closed temporarily by SCDF for investigation purposes.
