A Filipino woman was jailed seven weeks in Singapore yesterday after the authorities determined that she had submitted false academic credentials when applying for permanent residency nearly 10 years ago.
Noriza Dancel De Luna, 38, never graduated from Manila’s Centro Escolar University, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said last night in a statement. Both De Luna’s diploma and transcripts cited in residency applications for herself and her daughter in 2008 and 2009, respectively, were bogus.
“Verifications with the Centro Escolar University located in Manila, Philippines revealed that De Luna has no records of enrolment at the said school, and the diploma and transcript which De Luna had submitted for the applications did not originate from their office,” the statement read.
It said she was arrested in October 2017 but did not elaborate on the reason for the arrest or subsequent investigation a decade later, but said her case had surfaced following “internal investigations.” She now faces possible deportation.
There was no mention of the immigration status of her daughter.
