Singapore’s academic facilities get fastest fibre-optic network in Asia

The exchanging of information between research and education institutions in Singapore will get a monumental boost in speed, thanks to the recent launch of the region’s fastest community network.

According to a report by MIS-Asia, the system was launched by the Singapore Advanced Research and Education Network (SingAREN) yesterday, boasting a rapid rate of 100 gigabytes per second. The fastest fibre-optic service available for homes in Singapore reach only 1 gigabyte per second.

Dubbed the SingAren-Lightwave Internet Exhange (SLIX), the network aims to intensify collaborations between local research organisations, and is available for seamless dedicated access to the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star).
