This race is not for the weak.
For the first time in Singapore, participants will be able to channel their inner Spartan in this gruelling timed obstacle-course event. Known as the Spartan Race, this is the “ultimate challenge of strength”, as well as mental and physical endurance, organisers told Channel NewsAsia.
Jointly organised by MediaCorp and leading obstacle race company Spartan Race, this inaugural event, a 5km Sprint featuring “iconic” Spartan Race obstacles, will take place on Nov 15.
Founder and CEO Joe De Sena said: “Singapore is a world-class venue with a unique urban, island city terrain that will offer our athletes an exciting new course against which to test themselves. We are excited that the local authorities and governing bodies are supporting our race series and the sport of obstacle racing as we pull Singaporeans off their couches to see what they’re capable of.”
Even aspiring warriors who want to start training from young can participate in Asia’s first ever Spartan Junior Race which is designed specifically for kids. Those aged four to eight years old can participate in a 500m, six-obstacle race, while those aged nine to 13 can compete in a 1km, six-obstacle race.
Founded in 2010, Spartan Race is growing in popularity around the world, with over a million global participants expected to compete in 240 races in more than 25 countries this year. Spartan Race features races at three distances: 5km and 22-obstacle “Sprint”, 12km and 25-obstacle “Super”, and 16km and 33-obstacle “Beast”, all of which culminate each year in the Spartan World Championship.
Prepare for glory and push yourself to the limit!
