Six months into her pregnancy, a young expecting mother had her life tragically cut short when she was hit by a lorry in Jurong West on Saturday morning (May 13).

The good news is that doctors managed to save her premature baby girl following an emergency caesarean section, according to The Straits Times.

Goh Chieh Ting, 25, had been crossing a road in Jurong West Avenue 1 with her mother-in-law when she was involved in the fatal accident. A lorry driver was unable to stop his vehicle in time and knocked down the woman, who was quickly conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

As for the 46-year-old lorry driver, he was arrested for causing death by negligent act.

Goh succumbed to severe head injuries at 9.30am at the hospital, but her daughter was saved in the emergency room — the newborn was described as “healthy and large for her age”, according to one family member. The child is reportedly in stable condition as well.

The victim, who’s from Johor, Malaysia, had been living in Singapore for a couple of years and got hitched last year.
