Huddle down and don’t forget your umbrellas, ’cause the rain is here to stay — at least for the first half of January, with rainfall expected to be above normal. The Meteorological Service said in a weather forecast yesterday that moderate and heavy showers with thunder are to be expected on six to eight days in the afternoon, possibly extending to early evening on a couple days.
On the second week of the month, a monsoon surge could develop, ushering in a few days of cooler temperatures, windy conditions, and heavy rain. It’s not great news for large-scale outdoor events like the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival — which has already seen a huge dip in visitors due to the relentless rain — but for the rest of us, it’s cozy sweater weather all the way.
Daily temperatures will range between 31°C and 33°C during the day, and drop to 23°C to 24°C when the sun sets.
In other words, it’s probably best to stay cooped up indoors for the moment.
