Ex-SMRT station manager on the run after reportedly stealing $20,000 in cash

SMRT just can’t catch a break. The rail operator lodged a police report last Wednesday, accusing a former SMRT station manager of allegedly stealing $20,000 in cash from Tanah Merah station. It is believed that the man has left the country, and is now on the run.

The missing money reportedly came from commuters who topped up their travel cards at the station office, and it was taken over a period of a couple months. It was through an internal audit that the case surfaced, pointing a finger at the alleged criminal, who had only worked at SMRT for two years. Unfortunately, by the time the stolen cash was discovered and the police report filed, the man had already left Singapore for two months.

Investigations are ongoing.
