Yet another Person in Politics has weighed in on the ongoing Lee family saga (that has no end in clear sight), and this time it’s Singapore’s former prime minister Goh Chok Tong himself, the man who filled up the leadership role post-Lee Kuan Yew, pre-Lee Hsien Loong.
Instead of taking sides, the message by Emeritus Senior Minister Goh is one of unity. He calls for fellow Singaporeans to not “be dragged down by a family’s petty disputes” and “fight real battles” instead. Rah rah, Majulah Singapura, you know?
But honestly though, we don’t think anyone’s being “dragged down” by the tiff within the country’s first family. None of us are that affected by a silly little family conflict gone public, even if said family conflict involves allegations that the man running Singapore is an abusive one.
Really, it’s life as usual around here — albeit one that’s gotten a lot more sensational than usual because we’re watching a royal K-drama unfold IRL.
