A single text sent dozens of elderly Singaporeans scrambling to the nearest MRT stations and Transit Link Offices, all of whom believed that they’d be getting a free $50 top-up in their EZ-link cards today as part of some sort of SG50 initiative.
Though it’s not beyond governmental agencies to institute such an attractive financial gift for the pioneer generation (it is SG50 after all), the Ministry of Health and the Land Transport Authority have issued advisories that the message they’ve received is inaccurate.

The governmental bodies clarified that senior citizens will be receiving an SG50 Seniors Public Transport Voucher letter this month, which then only can be brought to Transit Link Offices to redeem the values.
Senior citizens actually have a more than a year to redeem their transport voucher — from Jun 15 to Dec 31 2016 in fact.
“There is no need to rush to redeem the voucher within today,” MOH stated, which is the politically correct way of saying “don’t be so kiasu lah”.
