Eric Khoo’s erotic drama In The Room gets R21 rating; to be released here on Feb 25

It’s been a while since we got a solid blast of Eric Khoo’s trademark grit and grime in the local cinematic landscape, but come Feb 25, his steamy In The Room will finally see a commercial release here.

The film had already made its rounds last year in the international festival circuit (to mixed reviews) and made landfall back home at the Singapore International Film Festival.

The erotic drama did get its premiere here, but it was initially revealed that the film is barred from commercial release, courtesy of the Media Development Authority. The authority did deem two scenes in the movie to be over board, and stated that the film could be classified for commercial release under the R21 rating if they were edited.

“I really want this to be seen in Singapore and would love it to get an R21 with no cuts,” Khoo said to Variety last year. “If it cannot, I will have to think again”.

TODAY however reports that the flick is slated for commercial release here after all with the R21 rating — meaning it could be in its edited form. The film will be commercially screened subsequently in Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries.
